Hubtrails: A HubPages travel guide to Sussex, UK, for visitors and holiday-makers

Sussex by the Sea
When you look at a map of Great Britain, it is easy to spot the county of Sussex down in the south-east corner of England. This coastal county looks seawards towards France, our nearest European neighbour, and enjoys good transport links with our capital city of London which lies around 60 miles inland from the famous Sussex seaside resort of Brighton.
The name ‘Sussex’ is derived from an Old English word meaning ‘South Saxons’, and the county itself was once known as the Kingdom of Sussex. The modern day county has boundaries with Surrey to the north, Kent to the east, and Hampshire to the West, and is divided for local government purposes into West Sussex and East Sussex.
Perhaps because of its geographical position, the county has its fair share of castles, and historic houses. The Romans had a stronghold here, and there are numerous Roman villas and fortresses slumbering beneath the rolling green hills of the South Downs, many, no doubt, still waiting to be discovered. Take a look at some of the many great articles written by HubPages authors, and learn more about this colourful, diverse, and historic county.

Thanks for putting this together. Sussex is a wonderful place to visit, and those of us lucky enough to live here should count our blessings.
Well done Amanda. The layout of your hub is so easy to follow and pleasing to the eye. Yet you have so many links in there.

Hi Amanda, I didn't know about all your excellent holiday hubs. I'd heard about the Lewes pound; it's a good idea.
Sounds cool.

excellent guide to sussex! The Lewes Bonfire Night Parade looks incredibly, we have something similar down here called the Ottery Tar Barrels. Will have to get up and see it one time.
I've been in UK a couple of times, but I've never been to Sussex. It seems a place worth going. I've seen that you haven't put a tracker code in the links to hubs written by other hubbers which in my humble opinion is a pretty fair thing. :) Rated up!
Wow, those martyr crosses took my breath when I first saw them. They reminded me of the Ku Klux Klan, gulp. Sounds like a fun place to visit, with fascinating history. Thanks for taking me there on a fantasy tour, Amanda!!
